Robert started helping in the family business A&R Micallef when he was only 13. Coming from a family who for the last 3 generations were always in business you can say that buying and selling were in his blood. At the age of 23 he took over the wholesale business however, always an entrepreneur at heart he always wanted to start some kind of business on his own. In 1996 he founded Cortex ltd, which is still going strong today. In his "free" time Robert practises and teaches Traditional Karate. Since 1995 he has trained with Mr Franco Azzopardi.

2002 Robert was elected as president of the Traditional Karate Federation of Malta.
May 2004 during a training camp in England Robert was graded 3rd Dan by Sensei Masoa Kawasoe. Karate has taught him strategies, which are also used in business on a day-to-day basis. Robert still practises Karate and cycling nearly every day as sports is a way of life for him.
